Cupid, Eros and Valentine!
Cupid (Eros in Greek), the symbol of Love was a child. His mother noticed that he was not growing while all other kids were changing to adults. She took him to Apolo who was the doctor between all the other gods and expressed her concern. Apolo examined Cupid and said that as a matter of fact he will never grow and forever stays as a child!
Cupid represents the essence of Love. Love has characteristics like always being curious, to go further from where it is to beyond, always looks for the new, always energetic and never loses these qualities, hence never grows and stays as a child to continue harboring these attributes. It is mostly when one grows older that many of those characteristics fade away and conformity, conservatism, fear and tiredness and even dismay sets in.
One of my friends who is a primary school teacher once told me that it always keeps him wondered as how brave, enthusiastic and curious the kids are. Whenever he asks a question almost all kids raise their hands to answer even though some may not know the right answer but they are keen to participate and try and in the meantime curious as what the answer is. Such an innate confidence and courage and also naivety as love is blind, so is Cupid!. (Though if the blindness is to the outside world and the inner eye is awake then it will contain all the required wisdom just like the love that Rumi defines).
This is what Cupid is, to throw the arrow, to be playful and experience life. And as Edison said wherever your arrow lands is a target even if the target is not the one you intended, it is just a different one!
It is this curiosity that becomes the cornerstone of human’s growth and development as well as it’s freshness and longevity which carries us to the end of life as we always look for a better or more advanced or acceptable status and the root of this attitude is LOVE in it’s deepest and more fundamental meaning. Hence if one considers love, to love and to be loved, they can gauge it with those attributes and if it lacks them then they shall question it.

Although in childhood we present LOVE with total purity and clarity (maybe the story of Jesus holding a child and saying you should be like this child would represent similar meaning), yet in adulthood due to the changes that was mentioned before we misplace that curiosity and put it on wrong objects, areas, ideas! It becomes clouded.
Curiosity, looking for new and the rest of the attributes carries on (hence we are alive) yet there will emerge a void which sounds difficult to fill therefore more and more items will be chosen to fill it to no avail until it is filled with what which is right for it.
Eros in clouds is the name of a song we (Abstracts unified) produced that explains the same notion.
“When I was a child
I used to enjoy solving puzzles
I was looking forward
Looking forward to each new day
And I think I still do, with every breath in every way
But no matter how hard I try, it’s as if I’m looking away!
The more I drink, the thirstier I am
The more I eat, the hungrier I am
The more I speak, the more silence I feel
The more I listen, the less answers I hear!
I’m earning more, but I don’t feel rich
And I called the wealth into my life
I painted myself and the world around me
But still left hollowed and dried from within!
The more famous I get, the less known I am to me
Though within ever growing crowds, the lonelier I feel
Everything seems so familiar, but life is a stranger to me
The closer I think I am, the farther I end up to be!
I respond to my human needs,
And listen with joy, to the sweetest songs
But like Sirens they take me on the path
Which makes me wonder and my head in clouds!
So my body conquered the world –
And I announced myself oh so loudly
The only place I could not bare to claim
Was my weeping soul, indifferent to fame!”
